Birthplace: Unknown is a new collective magazine series.

Each year, we will focus on one of Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories through the voices of people who now live in the Netherlands but carry a deep personal connection to home.

The first issue of our magazine focuses on Donbas, a region of Ukraine that has lived in the shadow of occupation and war for over a decade. Through personal texts and visual fragments created by people now living in the Netherlands, the zine reflects on memory, displacement, and the fragile idea of home.

We are sharing this work around 24 February, not as something to consume, but as a quiet moment of grounding. A way to be together, remember, and sit with what is difficult.

During the day, participants will co-create the zine using writing, collage, drawing, scanning, photocopying, and DIY publishing methods.In the evening, we open the space to share the process and fragments from the first issue. And you are invited to see the first raw results of the workshop!

This first edition is a pilot created with our own resources as a step toward building a sustainable annual publication.
